The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The deployment covers the three senatorial districts and all operational areas across the state, with personnel assigned to traffic management, emergency response, clearance of road obstructions and enforcement of the restriction of movement during the election.
The FRSC disclosed this in a statement signed on Friday by its Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri.
According to the Corps, 2,300 personnel are being deployed from the Osun Sector Command, while 50 personnel each are coming from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun sector commands.
The operational fleet includes seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances positioned at strategic locations to support rescue operations and emergency response.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the deployment was part of the agency’s efforts to support a peaceful, safe and credible electoral process within its statutory mandate.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.
He added that FRSC personnel would operate with strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights while working with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies.
The Corps also said it would inspect and certify vehicles provided by fleet operators to transport electoral materials, ensuring they meet prescribed safety standards and are roadworthy before deployment.
It further announced plans for a Train-the-Trainer workshop to strengthen the capacity of personnel assigned to election duties. Participants will include officials from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
On the restriction of movement, the Corps said it would strictly enforce the order within designated areas during the election.
It stated that vehicles earmarked for enforcement would begin deployment from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with personnel positioned at strategic locations across the state.
The FRSC urged motorists, transport operators and other road users to plan their journeys ahead, comply with lawful traffic directives and avoid restricted routes during the election period.
The Corps said its operatives would conduct traffic control, crowd management, clearance of obstructions and rescue operations before, during and after the election.
It added that personnel would also be deployed to designated polling locations in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, while remaining within their statutory responsibilities.
The FRSC directed all personnel on election duty to remain alert, approachable and respectful of the dignity and rights of citizens, regardless of political affiliation, gender, religion or other considerations.
It further reminded its personnel to comply with the prescribed oath of neutrality in line with the Electoral Act.
