Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised the distribution of cash to supporters at an empowerment programme involving Maryam Wadada, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Senator Ahmed Wadada.
A video from the event has gone viral on social media, showing Maryam reportedly handing out cash to attendees during the programme.
Reacting to the development in a post on her official X handle, Yesufu questioned the impact of such cash distributions compared with the financial support provided by citizens for basic needs.
“You see this money the people there are receiving?
“They value it more than the hundreds of thousands you use to pay their children’s school fees, pay their rents and hospital bills.
“Do you know that you are the ones subsidizing governance for APC to do this freely without the people going after them?” she wrote.
Yesufu’s comments have since sparked reactions on social media, with the debate centring on political empowerment programmes, cash distributions and the responsibilities of government towards citizens.
