ABUJA – President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will overcome Nigeria’s security challenges, assuring citizens that ongoing efforts by the Federal Government will soon restore peace across the country.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), led by its National President, Dr. Lima Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media to the President of the Senate, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said President Tinubu is giving the nation’s security situation his full attention, citing the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State as evidence of the government’s commitment.
“The current administration is doing a whole lot, and I can assure you that very soon, the issue of insecurity will become a thing of the past,” Akpabio said.
He also urged Nigerians to disregard negative narratives circulating on social media, insisting they do not accurately reflect the realities of the country’s security situation.
Speaking on women’s participation in politics, the Senate President said the reluctance of many women to support female candidates during elections could be linked to the actions of some women who previously held public office but failed to use their positions to advance the interests of other women.
Akpabio further pledged the support of the Senate for the upcoming international ladies’ golf tournament to be hosted at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
Earlier, the National President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Dr. Lima Ahmed, thanked the Senate President for receiving the delegation and formally invited him to the association’s forthcoming international tournament.
She also decorated Akpabio as the Grand Patron of the association in recognition of his support for the development of women’s golf in Nigeria.
