The Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State for the 2027 election, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has declared that the PDP remains the only credible political platform capable of addressing the state’s socio-economic and developmental challenges.
Sowunmi-Kolapo made the declaration on Tuesday during a visit to her Ijemo community in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, where she was received by party supporters, community leaders and residents. She was accompanied by the PDP’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, and other party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the PDP deputy governorship candidate urged Ogun residents, particularly the Egba people, to reject intimidation and support the party in the 2027 governorship election.
According to her, the PDP’s governorship ticket reflects the aspirations of the state’s indigenous people and offers the best opportunity to reposition Ogun for sustainable development.
“The PDP is the most credible and formidable political party to reshape the fortunes of Ogun State. Our record of governance and developmental achievements remains unmatched,” she said.
Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power in the state, insisting that neither the party nor its supporters would be intimidated ahead of the polls.
She also encouraged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), assuring them that every vote would count.
“We will not allow anyone to intimidate us. Let us come out in large numbers to vote. Do not believe anyone who tells you your votes will not count because they will count,” she said.
Speaking on leadership, Sowunmi-Kolapo said while the Egba people are hospitable and welcoming, the state’s leadership should be entrusted to those who understand the people and their aspirations.
Also speaking, Ogun State PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, described the PDP as the only political party with a proven record of delivering democratic dividends to the people of Ogun State.
Tella said the achievements of previous PDP administrations remain evident across various sectors despite the party being out of power, urging voters to compare its legacy with the performance of subsequent governments.
He called on party members and supporters to remain united, intensify grassroots mobilisation and encourage eligible residents to register for and collect their PVCs ahead of the 2027 elections.
Similarly, the PDP’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, appealed to the people of Ogun Central, especially the Egba, to unite behind the PDP.
She argued that the zone deserves to produce the next governor through a party with an Egba indigene on its governorship ticket, maintaining that the PDP remains best positioned to move Ogun State forward.
“Our fathers fought for Abeokuta to become the capital of Ogun State. We must come together as Egba people and ensure that the party with an Egba person on its governorship ticket wins the election,” Obasanjo said.
She urged residents to vote massively for the PDP in the 2027 general election, describing the party as the only platform capable of taking Ogun State to greater heights.
