Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Engagement, Fredrick Nwabufo, has criticized the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, describing him as lacking a clear understanding of governance.
Nwabufo made the remarks while reacting to Obi’s recent interview in which the former Anambra State governor pledged to unite Nigeria if elected president in the 2027 general election.
In a statement released on Monday, the presidential aide argued that Obi’s comments reflected “a lack of deep thought” and failed to present a concrete roadmap for national development.
According to Nwabufo, Obi’s promise to unite the country was not backed by practical strategies, insisting that references to members of his political camp and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) being from northern Nigeria were insufficient to demonstrate a plan for national cohesion.
He maintained that true national unity can only be achieved through inclusive governance, economic integration, and equitable treatment of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social status.
“The mechanics of national cohesion are governance and the economy,” Nwabufo said, adding that strengthening national unity requires fair distribution of public resources and equal access to the benefits of governance.
The presidential aide further praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming it has ensured that all six geopolitical zones benefit from government programmes, projects, and initiatives.
He also cited the appointment of young professionals from diverse backgrounds into key government positions as evidence of the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, describing it as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.
Nwabufo concluded that the Tinubu administration has demonstrated a stronger commitment to national cohesion through equitable governance and broad-based representation.
