PDP Turaki Faction Blames ‘Power, Money and Greed’ for Court Ruling Favoring Wike Camp, Heads to Appeal

The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that “politics of power, money and greed” may have influenced the Federal High Court’s decision to dismiss its suit seeking recognition of its leadership.

The faction made the claim in a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following the court’s ruling in favour of the camp aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Expressing disappointment over the judgment, the faction said it respected the court but strongly disagreed with the verdict, arguing that it was inconsistent with previous decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

“While we respect the judgment of the trial court, we respectfully consider that it is against the extant judgments of the Appeal and apex courts, leaving the plaintiffs with no option but to appeal the judgment and the rulings therein,” the statement read.

The faction disclosed that it had already directed its legal team to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

It expressed confidence that the appellate court would overturn the decision, insisting that the appeal would strengthen Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and safeguard the country’s opposition politics.

The Turaki-led faction maintained that while “the politics of power, money and greed” may prevail temporarily, it remains convinced that justice will ultimately be served despite the Federal High Court’s ruling.
