Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has said he is at liberty to withdraw his support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, amid criticism over a recent meeting with Seyi Tinubu.
Speaking in a video shared on his Facebook page, Fayose responded to backlash that followed the circulation of a viral clip showing him praying with President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu.
He maintained that his previous support for Obi should not be taken for granted, stressing that he has the right to support any political candidate of his choice.
Fayose also expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu and his son, saying his recent meeting with Seyi Tinubu should not attract condemnation.
According to him, he invested significant personal resources in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign but received no appreciation from the former Labour Party candidate.
“I can withdraw my support for Peter Obi. Do you people know how much I spent on Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign? I met Seyi Tinubu and people started complaining. Has Peter Obi ever appreciated me? If I want, I can start campaigning for President Tinubu. I’m a Yoruba man, and I love President Tinubu and his son,” he said.
His latest remarks come just days after he dismissed claims that his meeting with Seyi Tinubu and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) signaled the end of his support for Peter Obi, insisting that the encounter should not be interpreted as a political defection.
