Onjeh Dumps Tinubu, Alia, Declares Support for Peter Obi Ahead of 2027

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial District, Daniel Onjeh, has withdrawn his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia.

Onjeh announced his decision on Thursday while sharing footage of his recent meeting with former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also declared his support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, describing himself as “humbly Obidient.”

In a post accompanying the footage, Onjeh said his principles had been misunderstood by APC leaders, adding that he had now embraced the Obidient movement.

“They misconstrued my principles as stubbornness. Now, I’m humbly Obidient. You go where you’re valued,” he wrote.

Although Onjeh did not disclose the specific reason for his decision, his defection comes after he failed to secure the APC senatorial ticket ahead of the January election.

Before the APC primary held in May 2026, Onjeh was known as a strong supporter of President Tinubu and Governor Alia.

His latest declaration signals a significant shift in his political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Benue South, where political realignments are already beginning to take shape.
