Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said his decision to partner former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election is driven by the need to provide Nigerians with competent, accountable and people-oriented leadership.

Kwankwaso stated this in a message to Nigerians as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election formally begin.

He said Nigeria was at a critical crossroads, citing rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and inadequate investment in education, healthcare and infrastructure as major challenges confronting the country.

According to him, millions of Nigerians, particularly young people, are struggling to secure meaningful employment, while businesses continue to grapple with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment.

He also expressed concern over the worsening security situation, noting that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping had continued to threaten communities and destroy lives, homes and livelihoods.

“Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear,” Kwankwaso said.

Despite the challenges, the former governor said Nigeria possessed the human and material resources needed to build a prosperous and secure nation.

He maintained that the country required leadership characterised by “competence, courage and commitment” and focused on putting the interests of Nigerians ahead of personal considerations.

Explaining his decision to work with Obi, Kwankwaso said the partnership was not motivated by regional, religious or personal interests.

“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

“Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria.”

Kwankwaso said the alliance was based on a shared vision of a Nigeria where government serves the people, hard work is rewarded, young Nigerians can build successful futures at home and every citizen has a fair opportunity to prosper.

He called on young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals to join the political movement, urging Nigerians to move beyond divisive politics and focus on issues affecting their daily lives.

The former governor also urged voters to demand accountability, competence and measurable results from public office holders.

He described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to determine a new direction for the country.

Kwankwaso appealed to Nigerians to support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and candidates of the NDC, while urging supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly.

“Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart. Together, we can build a stronger nation and Nigeria will be OK,” he said.
