Finance Minister Edun Assures Public After Meeting with President Tinubu on Minimum Wage

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, assured the public that “there is no cause for alarm” following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

Edun attended the meeting alongside the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu. While Edun did not disclose the specific agenda, it is believed the meeting addressed the president’s directive from Tuesday to finalize figures for presentation to the organized labor at the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage.

The Tripartite Committee meeting on Wednesday made little progress due to the federal government’s inability to present new figures to the organized labor. Initially, the federal government and the Organized Private Sector proposed a new minimum wage of N60,000, which was rejected by the labor representatives.

The government team is expected to present an updated figure at the 2 PM meeting today.
