The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Governor Douye Diri to embrace inclusive governance and channel resources toward addressing the state’s developmental challenges rather than pursuing political interests.
Speaking to journalists in Yenagoa, the State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, urged the Bayelsa State Government to prioritize policies and programmes that promote sustainable development, economic growth, and improve the welfare of citizens.
Ikuromo also cautioned the government against any alleged attempts to lure NDC aspirants with financial incentives aimed at creating divisions within the party.
According to him, no amount of inducement would distract the NDC from its determination to take over leadership in the state.
He advised the government to redirect such resources toward pressing developmental concerns, particularly the issue of gas turbine projects that have been commissioned but remain non-operational.
Addressing reports of dissatisfaction among some party members following the party’s primary elections, Ikuromo disclosed that the NDC had already established a comprehensive grievance resolution mechanism under the leadership of former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
He assured party members that the National Executive Council of the NDC would publish the final list of candidates for various elective positions within the timeline stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The state chairman also praised Senator Dickson for his leadership during the party’s primary elections nationwide, describing his conduct as exemplary.
According to Ikuromo, Dickson demonstrated fairness, wisdom, and political maturity throughout the exercise, ensuring that all aspirants were given equal opportunities to participate in the process.
He further commended the party’s commitment to youth and women inclusion, noting that the NDC’s affirmative action policies have strengthened political participation and contributed to building a more inclusive political movement.
While reaffirming the party’s readiness for future electoral contests, Ikuromo called on members and supporters across Bayelsa State to remain united and focused on the NDC’s mission of taking over governance from what he described as a ruling party that has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
