Tinubu Should Resign Over Worsening Insecurity, Atiku’s Spokesman Declares

Media Adviser and spokesperson to former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, citing what he described as the administration’s failure to effectively tackle the country’s worsening security challenges.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, Ibe argued that the government had fallen short of its constitutional responsibility to guarantee the security and welfare of Nigerians.

According to him, the current security situation across the country has deteriorated since Tinubu assumed office, claiming that recent figures indicate that no fewer than 879 people have been killed, while nearly 300 others remain in captivity.

He described the figures as alarming and reflective of the widespread insecurity confronting citizens in various parts of the country.

Ibe maintained that despite efforts by the federal government, the results have not been satisfactory, stressing that Nigerians could no longer afford what he termed a “trial-and-error” approach to governance.

“The primary responsibility of any government is the security and welfare of its people. Are Nigerians more secure today than they were in 2023? The answer is no,” he said.

Citing the reported casualty and abduction figures, Ibe said the statistics paint a disturbing picture of the security crisis facing the nation.

He further criticized the administration’s handling of the situation, insisting that stronger leadership was required to address the country’s challenges.

“The government’s efforts are not good enough. We cannot continue on this journey of trial and error,” Ibe stated, adding that President Tinubu should step down over what he described as ineffective leadership in tackling insecurity.

His comments come amid growing concerns over incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks in several parts of the country, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinizing the government’s security strategy.
