Kane Surpasses Pelé’s World Cup Record as England Reach Last 16

England captain Harry Kane etched his name further into football history after surpassing Brazil legend Pelé on the all-time FIFA World Cup goalscoring chart.

Kane scored twice to inspire England to a 2-1 comeback victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in Wednesday’s Round of 32 clash.

The Three Lions fell behind in the first half after Brian Cipenga gave DR Congo the lead with a clinical finish. However, England responded through their captain, who struck twice late in the game to seal the victory and book their place in the Round of 16.

The result sets up a last-16 showdown against co-hosts Mexico.

With his brace, Kane now has 13 FIFA World Cup goals, moving ahead of Brazilian icon Pelé on the competition’s all-time scoring list. The Bayern Munich striker also extends his record as England’s highest goalscorer in World Cup history.
