Sowore Pledges to Scrap JAMB, NYSC, Introduce Voluntary National Job Corps

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to abolish the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) if elected President of Nigeria.

In a statement shared on his X account, Sowore said admissions into tertiary institutions should be handled directly by universities, polytechnics, and colleges through a transparent, merit-based process, rather than by what he described as an unnecessary bureaucratic layer.

He stated that JAMB would be abolished under his administration, arguing that higher institutions should have full responsibility for determining admission into their programmes.

Sowore also announced plans to scrap the NYSC scheme in its current form and replace it with a two-year voluntary National Job Corps.

According to him, the proposed programme would provide participants with guaranteed employment opportunities, practical skills training, entrepreneurship support, and pathways to permanent careers.

“Nigeria’s young people do not need more compulsory schemes,” Sowore said. “They need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future.”

The former presidential candidate maintained that his proposed reforms are aimed at reducing bureaucracy, expanding employment opportunities, and giving young Nigerians greater control over their career paths.
