Ex-Tinubu Aide Denies Breaking Rules, Says He Resigned Before Winning APC Primary

Former Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly Matters, Ibrahim Olarewaju, has dismissed allegations that he violated electoral guidelines by contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Ekiti North Federal Constituency II seat without first resigning from his appointment.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his media office, Olarewaju maintained that he fully complied with all constitutional, legal, and party requirements before participating in the primary election.

The statement said his victory at the APC primary reflected years of grassroots engagement, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to the people of Ekiti North Federal Constituency II. It also described the exercise as transparent, credible, and conducted in accordance with the party’s guidelines.

According to the statement, Olarewaju’s resignation as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters took effect on March 31, 2026, in line with the directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to step down before contesting.

“It is incorrect and misleading to suggest that Olarewaju’s participation in the primary election violated any provision of the law. Allegations, no matter how loudly repeated, do not amount to evidence,” the statement read.

The former presidential aide insisted that all due processes were followed ahead of the APC primary election, rejecting claims that his emergence as the party’s candidate breached any legal or party provisions.
