Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a commanding performance to defeat Egypt 6-2 and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Wednesday.

Needing a victory by at least a three-goal margin to keep their qualification hopes alive, the nine-time African champions rose to the occasion with a ruthless attacking display in their final Group C fixture.

The emphatic win saw Nigeria finish the group stage on six points, level with Zambia and Malawi, but advance to the knockout stage alongside Malawi on goal difference after a tightly contested three-way race.

Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday and Rasheedat Ajibade were among the goalscorers as the Super Falcons overwhelmed Egypt. Nigeria also converted three penalties in a dominant performance that underlined their attacking quality.

The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for the Falcons, who had opened their campaign with a disappointing defeat to Malawi. They now remain firmly in contention for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.

Nigeria will face Cameroon in the quarter-finals as they continue their quest for continental glory.
