A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has criticised former Vice President and 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, over his move to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to prevent Tinubu from participating in the election over an alleged discrepancy in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The former vice president argued that the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which he claims differs from the President’s name, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Reacting to the development in a Facebook post, Igbokwe described Atiku’s legal action as “childish” and questioned his continued political challenge to Tinubu.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is asking PBAT to produce his NYSC Certificate. Oro pe si je. The corrupt Custom man is not done yet. This is becoming childish,” Igbokwe wrote.
He further alleged that Atiku lacks the trust of Nigerians to manage the country’s resources, stating: “Atiku Abubakar knows that Nigerians cannot trust him with the Treasury of Nigeria.”
The development adds another layer to the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with both camps increasingly taking their disagreements to the courts and public space.
