OSOGBO – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence ahead of the August 15 governorship election, urging workers across the state to translate their support for his administration into votes on election day.
Speaking on Monday during a town hall meeting with civil servants organised by the Joint Labour Movement in Osogbo, Adeleke appealed to eligible voters to participate actively in the election, stressing that support alone would not secure victory.
“Support alone is not enough. On August 15, every eligible worker must convert that support into votes. Your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is your voice, and your vote for Imole is your power,” the governor said.
He encouraged workers to vote early and mobilise their families, neighbours and friends, while urging them not to be intimidated during the electoral process.
“If re-elected, we will consolidate on the achievements recorded over the past three and a half years. Our administration remains committed to the welfare of workers, women and youths,” Adeleke added.
The governor also pledged to immediately approve and implement the newly proposed minimum wage once negotiations are concluded.
According to him, Osun is among the few states already paying the current ₦75,000 minimum wage, while his administration has restored the regular payment of salaries and pensions.
Adeleke further stated that his government had cleared more than ₦80 billion in inherited salary and pension liabilities, including a significant portion of outstanding pension arrears and the backlog of half-salary payments owed by previous administrations.
“These achievements were not done to seek applause. They were done because it was the right thing to do,” he said.
In his remarks, Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Christopher Arapasopo, assured the governor of workers’ support, saying they would reciprocate his administration’s efforts by voting for him in the governorship election.
Similarly, the state’s Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, reaffirmed workers’ backing for Adeleke, expressing confidence that civil servants would turn out in large numbers to support his re-election bid.
“We are fully behind the governor, and we will not disappoint him on election day. Workers will vote massively for him,” Aina said.
