Senator Rufai Hanga, the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate and representative of Kano Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hanga announced his resignation in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the NDC in Dakata Ward, Kano.
In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision came after “careful reflection and personal deliberation,” noting that he was leaving the party to pursue personal commitments and a different career path.
He expressed gratitude to the ward executive committee and party members for their support, cooperation, and the relationships built during his time in the party.
“I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, 3rd August 2026,” the letter read.
“After careful reflection and personal deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my membership from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.”
Hanga also requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register, confirming that he had returned his official NDC membership card.
“Please find attached my official NDC membership card. I request that my name be formally removed from the party register at the ward level,” he stated.
The senator concluded by wishing the NDC and its members success in their future political activities.
Hanga’s resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, although he did not disclose his next political destination or any plans to join another party.
