Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has emphasized the importance of legislative experience ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying it remains a key factor for effective representation and national development.
Bello made the remarks at a recent event organized by the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Leke Abejide, who also chairs the House Committee on Customs.
Speaking at the gathering, the former governor noted that lawmakers who serve multiple terms tend to perform better due to their deeper understanding of parliamentary procedures, stronger institutional networks, and accumulated legislative knowledge.
According to him, such experience often translates into greater influence in policy formulation, committee leadership, and sustained constituency projects.
“The structure of the National Assembly values seniority and experience, which helps lawmakers navigate complex processes more effectively and deliver continuity in development projects,” Bello said.
Turning his attention to Abejide’s constituency, Bello appealed to residents of Mopa-Muro to support continuity in representation, stressing that timing and experience matter in political growth.
“I understand the aspirations of our brothers and sisters in Mopa-Muro. It is indeed your turn, but there is wisdom in timing. Allow Abejide to complete a third term and bring greater development to the constituency. After him, the opportunity will come, and it will come stronger,” he stated.
He also encouraged Abejide, currently elected to the 10th National Assembly under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of his bid for re-election.
“We want him to join our party, the APC, and return to the House of Representatives for a third term,” Bello added.
