Kenneth Okonkwo Warns Peter Obi Against NDC Move, Says He Risks Becoming ‘Political Squatter’

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has disclosed that he advised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that such a move could leave him politically marginalized within the party.

Okonkwo made the revelation in a post shared on X on Friday, stating that he cautioned Obi that leaving the ADC for the NDC would make him what he described as a “mobile squatter” within the opposition platform.

“I told Obi that if he left ADC, he would become a mobile squatter in NDC,” Okonkwo wrote.

According to the former presidential campaign spokesperson, recent remarks by the NDC’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, have reinforced his concerns about Obi’s potential role in the party.

“The interview by Seriake Dickson, the Supreme Leader of the NDC, over the past two days confirmed my fears,” he said.

Okonkwo referenced comments allegedly made by Dickson suggesting that those dissatisfied with the party’s structure were free to establish their own political platform.

“He told people that if they think registering a party is easy, they should go and register theirs. Sorry, squatters do not have rights and privileges in the landlord’s house,” Okonkwo stated.

The Nollywood actor-turned-politician further argued that Obi and his supporters would have limited influence within the NDC, alleging that their role would be confined to unquestioning loyalty to the party’s leadership.

His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and speculations surrounding opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
