2027: I Have No Godfather But God, Says Rivers NDC Governorship Candidate

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara, has declared that his political ambition is driven solely by his vision for the state and not by any political godfather.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, Fubara dismissed claims that his governorship bid is an extension of the political influence of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who is his brother.

According to him, he has no political godfather and relies only on divine guidance.

“I don’t have a godfather, but I have God the Father,” he said.

Fubara argued that suggestions that his ambition is tied to any political figure undermine his personal convictions and aspirations for the state.

“If my ambition is determined by the grounds you are mentioning, it would mean I have no clear vision or focus for what I am working toward,” he stated.

The NDC candidate further emphasized that he and Governor Fubara hold different political views and ideologies, despite their family relationship.

“My brother, Nigerians, and indeed the wider world saw what happened between him and his party. We have different political ideologies and individual perspectives,” he said.

Addressing the political situation in Rivers State, Fubara described the current period as challenging and accused political actors of promoting varying narratives to shape public perception.

“It’s a trying moment for us in Rivers State and there are all sorts of narratives. They come with different narratives and try to set up a perspective for the people to run with, but we are focused, with our eyes on the ball, that the soul of Rivers State must be rescued,” he added.

His comments come amid growing political realignments and preparations ahead of the next governorship election in Rivers State.
