The Convener of the Northern League of Democrats, Umar Ardo, has accused opposition political parties of neglecting grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently more visible in campaign activities across the country.
Ardo made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he expressed concern over what he described as the absence of visible campaign activities by opposition parties.
According to him, a tour of Abuja and other parts of the country suggests that the APC is more active on the ground, while other political contenders appear to be concentrating their efforts on social media.
He argued that opposition parties were spending more time reacting to the activities and statements of the ruling party instead of taking their own messages and political agendas directly to the people.
“There is a one-sided political campaign. If you drive around Abuja and other states, it is only APC you will see. Other political contenders, you will see them on social media almost always reacting rather than acting and defining the election,” Ardo said.
He warned that the situation could create the impression of an uneven campaign environment, urging opposition parties to intensify their grassroots engagement.
Ardo advised opposition politicians to move beyond social media activities, take their campaigns to the streets and communities, and communicate their own agendas to Nigerians rather than constantly responding to the ruling party.
His comments come as political parties and key political figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
