‘You Have a Son Worthy of Admiration’ — Showunmi Hails Seyi Tinubu’s Leadership, Inclusive Politics

Political commentator and former governorship aspirant, Segun Showunmi, has praised Seyi Tinubu for what he described as his leadership qualities, humility and commitment to inclusive political engagement.

Showunmi made the remarks after visiting the office of the City Boy Movement, where he was personally taken around the facility by Seyi Tinubu.

In a message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and shared on X, Showunmi said every father would be grateful to see his values reflected in the character and conduct of his children.

“There are many achievements a man may record in public life, but among the greatest blessings bestowed upon any father is to see his values reflected in his children,” he wrote.

According to Showunmi, Seyi is “working hard to justify the confidence reposed in him and to earn his place through effort and commitment.”

He said what impressed him most about the City Boy Movement office was not the facility itself but the organisational culture and philosophy behind its operations.

Showunmi described the organisation as a “truly pan-Nigerian operation,” noting that young Nigerians from different regions, backgrounds and faiths were working together toward a common goal.

He also highlighted the presence of women and persons living with disabilities, saying diversity and inclusion appeared to be reflected in the organisation’s day-to-day operations rather than merely being used as slogans.

“Every detail suggested careful planning and deliberate leadership,” he said.

Showunmi further praised Seyi’s interaction with members of his team, particularly his informal engagement with junior staff.

“I watched Seyi interact with his team. I saw him share snacks with members of his back-end staff. There was no air of superiority, no unnecessary distance. Respect flowed naturally,” he stated.

He added that the attitude of the staff suggested they were motivated not only by their jobs but also by a sense of being valued within the organisation.

According to Showunmi, genuine leadership is often best demonstrated away from the cameras and public speeches.

“Character is what you do when no one is watching,” he said.

Addressing President Tinubu directly, Showunmi described Seyi as a “son worthy of admiration,” while praising his dedication, energy and commitment to service.

He also urged Seyi Tinubu to remain focused on his political activities and efforts to build bridges across Nigeria’s social and political divides.

“ST, keep going. The seeds you are planting today will bear fruit tomorrow. The hours you spend, the sacrifices you make, and the bridges you are building across our national divides will not go unnoticed,” Showunmi said.

He expressed optimism that Seyi’s efforts could demonstrate that political engagement can be organised, inclusive, respectful and purposeful.

“May the Almighty reward your labour, strengthen your resolve, and continue to guide your steps,” he added.

Showunmi concluded by saying that fathers hope their children will add value to their legacy, while nations need young people willing to work, unite others and serve with humility.

“From what I have seen, Seyi Tinubu is striving to be such a man. Character is what you do when no one is watching. Keep building, ST,” he said.
