Global ride-hailing company, Uber, has announced plans to end its operations in Nigeria, effective September 2, 2026, after 12 years in the country.
The company made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, citing a decision reached after a thorough review of its business operations.
“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” Uber said.
Uber launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and has since become a major player in Nigeria’s urban transportation sector, connecting passengers with independent drivers through its platform.
Reflecting on its time in the country, the company said it had been a privilege to serve Nigerians, whether for daily commutes, visits to loved ones or trips across the city.
“We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the company added.
Uber said its Help Centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with final account-related enquiries.
“Thank you for welcoming us into your city,” the company said.
