The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suffered a major blow in Oyo State as several of its prominent members in Oluyole Local Government Area have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among those who joined the APC are Mogaji Saheed Oyewale, the SDP’s 2023 candidate for Oluyole State Constituency, and David Arowolo, who contested the 2024 local government chairmanship election on the party’s platform.

Also among the defectors are the SDP Oluyole LGA Chairman, Ganiyu Lawal, Secretary Adetunji Adewale, Women Leader Taiwo Lasisi, Youth Leader Muritala Jeje, and Public Relations Officer Afeez Agbongbon, alongside ward and local government executives across the 10 electoral wards.

Speaking after their defection in Ibadan, Oyewale said they joined the APC because they wanted to support President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a better Nigeria.

According to him, “Virtually all the people who matter in the SDP will join the APC in a matter of weeks.”

He also expressed confidence that the defectors would help the APC achieve a major victory in the 2027 elections.
