Tinubu Meets Adeleke at Presidential Villa After Osun Election Victory

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after Adeleke secured re-election in the state’s governorship election.

Adeleke arrived at the forecourt of the State House at about 5:25pm on Thursday for the meeting with the President.

The governor was declared winner of the August 15 election after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes.

Following the declaration, President Tinubu personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory, describing the outcome as “a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country.”

The President also urged Adeleke to unite the people of Osun State irrespective of their political affiliations and choices during the election.

Several other officials from Osun State were also seen arriving at the State House. They include the Director-General of the Adeleke Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; a member of the council, Sunday Bisi; the governor’s Chief of Staff, Akinleye Kazeem; and Bamidele Salam, representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11, giving the governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The victory has significant political implications, particularly as Adeleke contested the election under the Accord Party after the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adopted his candidacy and directed its structures to support his re-election bid.

Thursday’s meeting with President Tinubu is therefore attracting considerable political attention, coming amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The engagement also follows a series of meetings between President Tinubu and political leaders as preparations for the next election cycle gradually intensify.
