NRM Accuses Adeleke of Betraying Supporters Over Tinubu Endorsement

The Nigeria Reset Movement (NRM), a non-governmental organisation, has accused Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, of betraying his supporters by reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The organisation’s Public Relations Officer, David Jones, made the allegation in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday.

Jones said Adeleke’s decision contradicted the position he allegedly maintained in the months leading up to the 2026 Osun State governorship election, when he raised concerns over possible electoral malpractice and mobilised public support against it.

He also alleged that several people lost their lives during the election, faulting the governor for failing to address the issue in his victory speech after being declared the winner.

According to Jones, Adeleke’s renewed support for Tinubu amounted to a betrayal of those who backed him during the election, raising questions about the governor’s political realignment ahead of 2027.

He described the development as an example of what he called the broader problem of political expediency and weak accountability among Nigeria’s political leaders.

Jones said the NRM would intensify its activities as political preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, stressing that the organisation is a non-partisan platform focused on promoting accountability among political leaders and institutions.

He explained that the movement was established to provide Nigerians with a platform to challenge actions by political and economic elites that it considers detrimental to the national interest.

Drawing an analogy with the traditional practice of summoning individuals before the village square to account for their conduct, Jones said the NRM intended to bring public figures before Nigerians to explain their positions on issues of national importance.

“The village square in 21st century Nigeria is a call for people to come and debate their action or stance on an issue, not in front of a compromised press, but one on one against a member of NRM in full view of Nigerians,” he said.

Jones added that the organisation would invite political actors and other public figures to defend their positions, leaving Nigerians to judge those who decline such invitations.

He urged citizens to scrutinise the actions of political leaders and withdraw their support from individuals who, in the organisation’s assessment, fail to account for their decisions.

The NRM spokesman said the movement would continue to mobilise Nigerians around accountability, responsible leadership and political transformation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The tide is turning in Nigeria, and NRM boldly announces itself as a new force to drive the transformation that our country craves,” Jones said.
