Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu can “sleep with both eyes closed” ahead of future electoral contests, citing what he described as the administration’s visible achievements in Abuja and across the country.
Wike made the remark on Wednesday during the inauguration of Arterial Road N5 in Abuja, where he challenged residents of the FCT to deny experiencing the impact of the Federal Government’s projects and reforms.
According to the minister, if good governance and effective leadership are the true indicators of electoral success, then the Tinubu administration has already earned the confidence of many residents through its infrastructural development efforts.
“If we truly believe that good governance is what will make people want to bring you back to office, then I don’t think Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be sleeping with one eye open. No, he should sleep with both eyes closed,” Wike said.
He further challenged critics of the administration to point to any area within the FCT where government presence is not being felt.
“I challenge anyone in this FCT to come forward and say they do not feel the presence of government or see its impact,” he added.
The minister also recounted challenges encountered during the construction of the road project, revealing that the contractor, Julius Berger, faced resistance from members of the host community over compensation issues linked to demolished structures.
“When we were working on this road, and thank God it is good to come out and see what is happening instead of staying in the office, Julius Berger was facing a challenge. The community said the company would not proceed with the road project because they had not been compensated for the demolition,” Wike explained.
Despite the initial setbacks, the project was successfully completed and commissioned, adding to a series of infrastructure projects being executed under the Tinubu administration in the nation’s capital.
