Nigerian human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the remand of social media personality B-Lord, describing it as a troubling misuse of the legal system rather than a genuine victory for justice.
B-Lord was on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, ordered remanded for 26 days at the Kuje Correctional Centre by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The charges against him include impersonation of VeryDarkMan, forgery, false endorsement, breach of privacy, and identity theft.
Reacting shortly after the court ruling, Sowore expressed concern over the manner in which the case has been handled. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, he cautioned against celebrating the incarceration of any individual under legal proceedings.
He further alleged that the actions of VeryDarkMan and his legal representative, Marshal D F Abubakar, could contribute to what he described as systemic oppression.
According to Sowore, justice should be determined by the strength of evidence and fairness of the legal process, not merely by the effectiveness or brilliance of legal representation.
“Sending B-Lord to prison is not a victory for legal brilliance or advocacy,” he stated, adding that such outcomes risk reinforcing a system that may be used to suppress citizens.
Sowore also disclosed that he had reached out to Abubakar, urging him to withdraw from the case. He maintained that justice should not be reduced to punishment for its own sake and pledged to work towards ensuring the case is discontinued and B-Lord is released promptly.
The case continues to generate mixed reactions across social and legal circles, raising broader concerns about the balance between legal enforcement and the protection of individual rights in Nigeria.
