Russia Warns US, Turkey Over Planned Weapons Shipment to Ukraine

0

Russia has warned the United States and Turkey against the planned delivery of a large consignment of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, saying the move could further escalate tensions and undermine efforts to resolve the conflict diplomatically.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said documents released by the US Congress indicated that the proposed shipment could amount to a significant arsenal.

According to Zakharova, the weapons reportedly include 12 multiple-launch rocket systems, more than 2,500 non-guided cluster munitions, 47,000 203mm cluster shells and 70 ATACMS short-range missiles.

She questioned the rationale behind the decision, arguing that the shipment would prolong the conflict and lead to further loss of life.

Moscow is also seeking clarification from Washington and Ankara on who initiated the proposed re-export of the weapons, how they would be transported and when the shipment would be delivered to Ukraine.

Zakharova accused the United States and Turkey of adopting a biased position despite their stated interest in playing a role in efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis through political and diplomatic means.

She maintained that increased military support for Kyiv would not alter Russia’s objectives in the conflict, warning that the planned transfer could also create additional strain in Moscow’s relations with Washington and Ankara.

The Russian government has formally requested explanations from both countries over the reported arms transfer, stressing that there is still an opportunity to reconsider the plan.
