Adeleke Orders Withdrawal of EFCC Suit After Tinubu’s Intervention

Re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the state’s Attorney General to withdraw the lawsuit filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank accounts.

Adeleke disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, shortly after being declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.

The governor said he had decided to move beyond the dispute following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the matter.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr. President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.

The governor had previously challenged the EFCC’s decision to freeze the state government’s accounts, describing the action as politically motivated and harmful to the operations of his administration.

The account restrictions, which came shortly before the governorship election, had generated political controversy in the state. President Tinubu subsequently directed the EFCC to lift the restrictions and discontinue the related legal proceedings.

Speaking on reports that some members of his administration and supporters had been invited for questioning by the EFCC, Adeleke said he had instructed his lawyers to provide them with the necessary legal support.

“Well, we have been talking. I have been calling all my lawyers to go there. I’m sure the APC in Osun, according to them, they are telling us they are using federal might,” he said.

Adeleke’s latest position signals a willingness to put the dispute with the anti-graft agency behind him as he begins his second term in office.
