The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has declared that it will not endorse President Bola Tinubu or any other presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
The group made its position known on Tuesday in Abuja following a meeting of stakeholders from the South-South region.
PANDEF National Chairman, Godknows Igali, and Chairman of its Board of Trustees and former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah, disclosed the decision while responding to questions from journalists.
Igali said the organisation remained neutral and non-partisan, stressing that it was neither a support group for any political party nor an organisation seeking to influence voters in favour of a particular presidential candidate.
He added that PANDEF would not compel residents of the Niger Delta to vote for any candidate in the forthcoming election.
Instead, the group urged people across the South-South region to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully and support candidates capable of delivering democratic dividends to their communities.
“We are non-partisan. We, therefore, call on the people of the South-South to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully and vote according to their conscience, choosing candidates at all levels whose programmes, commitments, and demonstrated capacity align with the aspirations of the Niger Delta,” Igali said.
The group emphasised the need for voters to assess candidates based on their policies, track records and capacity to address the region’s developmental challenges.
PANDEF’s position comes as political activities and consultations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with political parties and stakeholders positioning themselves for the polls.
