2027: Tinubu Will Defeat Atiku, Obi Even Without Attending Rallies – Showunmi

0

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in the January 16, 2027, presidential election, regardless of whether he attends campaign rallies.

Showunmi made the remarks during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, arguing that Tinubu was more politically astute than the opposition figures.

The PDP chieftain, who served as Atiku’s spokesperson during the 2023 presidential election, described the president as significantly more experienced and politically savvy than his potential challengers.

“That guy called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a thousand years wiser than them, and I guarantee you he’s going to defeat them again,” Showunmi said.

He added that Tinubu’s absence from campaign rallies would not necessarily undermine his electoral prospects, suggesting that opposition figures would have to contend with his political influence regardless of his physical presence at campaign events.

Showunmi also criticised Atiku over his position on fuel, claiming that the former vice president had consistently viewed fuel as a waste and questioning what he described as a recent change in his stance.

Tinubu had earlier indicated during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council that he might not attend every presidential campaign rally ahead of the 2027 election.

The president’s remarks sparked reactions, with some Nigerians questioning the implications of his proposed absence from campaign events.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to feature political competition involving the APC and opposition parties, including the ADC and NDC, as political alignments and preparations continue ahead of the polls.
