The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has allegedly attacked the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Francis Eniade, barely two days before the state governorship election.
A photograph circulating on X on Wednesday showed Eniade with what appeared to be blood on his face and clothing.
Claims surrounding the incident alleged that Eniade was injured during the attack, alongside several other people, while some vehicles were reportedly damaged.
An X user who claimed to have confirmed the incident wrote: “Speaker Wale Egbedun just attacked Eniade. Dozens were injured, and several cars were destroyed.”
However, the Osun State Police Command had not confirmed the alleged attack as of the time of filing this report.
Egbedun, who is believed to be supporting the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, had earlier called for the arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Eniade over alleged inciting remarks.
Fadahunsi appeared before the Osun State Police Command on Wednesday in connection with alleged remarks calling for the killing of Accord Party supporters.
The governorship election is expected to be mainly contested by Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate; Bola Oyebamiji of the APC; and Francis Ajala of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), whose candidacy was cleared on Wednesday.
