The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged his supporters to refrain from attacking Caleb Mutfwang, stating that both leaders have resolved their past political differences and are now working together for the development of Plateau State.
Speaking on Monday in Jos, Yilwatda explained that the rivalry between him and the governor during the 2023 governorship election was purely political and never personal.
Mutfwang, who won the 2023 governorship election while representing the Peoples Democratic Party, had been a political opponent of Yilwatda, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Since the election, supporters of both leaders had frequently exchanged criticisms and attacks.
However, the APC chairman said the situation has now changed, noting that the governor’s defection to the ruling party has paved the way for cooperation and unity.
“Today, I want to thank God for two reasons. We’ve united with my brother, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in the same party, and we will provide the best we can,” Yilwatda said.
He stressed that their past disagreements were simply the result of belonging to different political camps at the time, adding that both leaders have now set aside those differences in the interest of peace and development.
“We never had any personal problems, and we never had any personal grudges. What we had was a political difference. We’ve closed those gaps, and we’re working together to ensure peace, development, and support for our people,” he stated.
Yilwatda also appealed to party loyalists and supporters across the state to stop any form of hostility directed at the governor, emphasizing that unity within the party is necessary for progress.
“We now have a strong partnership. So, I’m calling upon anybody who is hearing my voice: If you have any political difference with Mutfwang because of me or for any reason, please let bygones be bygones and let peace reign supreme in our state,” he added.
The reconciliation between the two leaders is expected to strengthen political cooperation in Plateau State and enhance collaboration between the state and the federal government.
