Demola Olarewaju, Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has described the party’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, as a statesman capable of putting personal interests aside for the larger political objective.
Olarewaju said Amaechi understands when to fight hard and when to set aside personal differences in pursuit of the coalition’s broader goal of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post on X, Olarewaju wrote: “Rotimi Amaechi is a statesman who knows when to fight hard and when to sheathe swords; when to be selfish and when to subsume personal interest for a larger agenda of kicking Tinubu out.
“Some people are only useful to themselves, and therefore useless to society and a coalition.”
Amaechi was selected as Atiku’s running mate after losing the ADC presidential primary election.
Following his defeat, the former Rivers State governor had challenged the outcome, alleging that the primary process was flawed.
However, Atiku subsequently reached out to Amaechi and another presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, urging them to support his ambition to lead Nigeria and help rescue the country from its current challenges.
Amaechi’s emergence as Atiku’s running mate is part of efforts by opposition figures within the ADC to build a broader coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
