The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has thrown its weight behind the House of Representatives Minority Caucus’ call on President Bola Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership or resign from office.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Acting National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, the opposition coalition said it fully aligns with the position of the Minority Caucus, insisting that the Tinubu administration must urgently address the challenges confronting Nigerians or make way for leaders capable of delivering results.
According to CUPP, elected leaders have a responsibility to improve the lives of citizens and should be prepared to step aside if they fail to meet that obligation.
“In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will help make the lives of the people better should honourably resign,” the statement read.
The coalition expressed concern over the country’s worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living conditions, urging the President to take immediate and decisive action to ease the burden on Nigerians.
“President Bola Tinubu and his administration must step up immediately to address the pressing issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and the general wellbeing of Nigerians. Leadership is not a right but a responsibility. Where this responsibility is not being discharged effectively, the honourable path is resignation,” CUPP stated.
The group further called on the President to heed the concerns raised by the opposition and implement visible measures aimed at improving the welfare of citizens across the country.
CUPP also assured Nigerians that it would continue to monitor developments in the country and remain vocal on issues affecting national progress and the wellbeing of the people.
The statement comes amid growing criticism of the federal government’s handling of economic and security challenges, with opposition groups intensifying calls for greater accountability and improved governance.
