The Bauchi State Police Command has begun a strict enforcement exercise targeting unregistered vehicles and motorists using fake, covered, or altered number plates, as mobile courts have been deployed across the state for swift prosecution of offenders.
The initiative, which is already underway in various parts of the state, follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police and is aimed at improving road safety and strengthening internal security.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the police have partnered with the state judiciary to establish mobile courts in the five Area Command headquarters and other strategic locations within the Bauchi metropolis.
The courts have commenced immediate trial of motorists found operating vehicles without valid registration, those using obscured or fictitious number plates, and vehicles bearing unauthorized or fake registration details.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, explained that the operation is part of broader efforts to curb insecurity, noting that criminals often exploit unregistered or untraceable vehicles to carry out offences such as kidnapping and armed robbery.
He stressed that the enforcement is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but to safeguard lives and property across the state.
Aliyu warned that any vehicle found in violation would be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in the mobile courts and sanctioned in line with relevant motor vehicle and police regulations.
He further urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure proper registration, display valid number plates, and avoid any form of concealment or alteration of registration details.
Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security operatives as the enforcement exercise continues across the state.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and reducing criminal activities linked to the use of untraceable vehicles.
