The Kebbi State Government has dismissed claims that the state is under siege, insisting that while security challenges exist, they do not amount to a breakdown of law and order.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki, described an article titled “Kebbi Under Siege: A Governor Without a Plan” as exaggerated and inconsistent with the realities across the state.
According to the government, schools, markets and public institutions remain fully operational, while farming activities continue in many communities, reflecting normal socio-economic activities despite isolated security incidents.
The government also refuted allegations that Governor Nasir Idris lacks a clear security strategy, stressing that security remains one of the administration’s highest priorities.
It disclosed that the state had provided more than 100 operational vehicles to security agencies and distributed over 3,000 motorcycles to vigilante groups and community-based security outfits to strengthen surveillance and improve rapid response operations.
The statement further revealed that over 3,000 local vigilantes had been recruited, trained and integrated into the state’s security framework to boost intelligence gathering and enhance collaboration with conventional security agencies.
In addition, the government said it had reactivated Local Government Security Committees to improve intelligence sharing, conflict resolution and coordinated responses to security threats at the grassroots.
Highlighting the administration’s intervention in the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls from Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, the government described the operation as evidence of Governor Idris’ commitment to tackling insecurity.
While acknowledging that security challenges persist, the state government maintained that Kebbi is not under siege and urged residents to disregard narratives capable of creating unnecessary panic or undermining ongoing security efforts.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security agencies and implementing measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
