The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has assured whistleblowers of financial incentives for information that leads to the recovery of stolen Nigerian assets.
Olukoyede also pledged that individuals who provide credible information to the anti-graft agency would receive adequate protection.
Speaking in a video message, the EFCC chairman urged Nigerians with actionable information about stolen assets to come forward and assist the commission in its recovery efforts.
He said whistleblowers could receive between 2.5 and 5 per cent of the value of recovered assets, depending on the circumstances.
“You must have a credible and actionable source of intelligence, so I welcome all of you to the world of whistle-blowing,” Olukoyede said.
“If you know where a Nigerian asset has been stolen or taken anywhere in the world, we have an incentive for you. Between 2.5% and 5% will go back to you upon recovery.
“That incentive was put in place to encourage people to come forward and give information about stolen assets.”
The EFCC said the incentive is intended to encourage more people to provide useful information that can assist investigations and facilitate the recovery of assets allegedly taken from Nigeria.
