Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has mourned the death of the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ugboaja, describing him as a committed patriot and passionate advocate for workers’ rights.

Obi expressed his condolences in a message shared on his X account on Friday, recalling that he first met Ugboaja during his time in the Labour Party.

The former Anambra State governor said he was impressed by Ugboaja’s commitment to workers’ welfare, justice, fairness and the development of Nigeria.

According to Obi, Ugboaja consistently demonstrated concern for ordinary Nigerians, particularly workers whose contributions to the country are often overlooked.

He said the late labour leader was never indifferent to the challenges facing Nigerians and remained committed to the pursuit of a better country.

Obi described Ugboaja’s death as a painful loss to his family, friends, colleagues and others who shared his ideals.

He extended his condolences to Ugboaja’s loved ones and prayed for strength for the bereaved family, while asking God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
