Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticised Labour Party presidential hopeful Peter Obi over his response to the recent attack on his convoy in Benue State.
Fayose expressed disappointment with Obi for leaving Benue for Plateau State without completing his planned humanitarian visit to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
In a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Fayose said Obi’s perceived gentlemanly approach to politics could work against his ambition to win the 2027 presidential election.
He argued that a more assertive approach would be required to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.
“I am highly disappointed in Mr Peter Obi today. Why will he leave Benue State for Plateau State without accomplishing his mission?” Fayose said.
He questioned how Obi and his supporters intended to wrest power from the APC while maintaining what he described as a gentlemanly approach to political confrontation.
Fayose further argued that Obi should be prepared to respond firmly to political challenges, saying, “If they bring thugs, we bring our own thugs. Thugs for thugs, fire for fire, trouble for trouble.”
He warned that Obi’s perceived gentleness could make him vulnerable to similar incidents in other states.
“I’m very sad that you left Benue. Other state governors will want to do it to you because they know you are gentle,” he added.
Obi had been in Benue as part of a planned visit to communities affected by insecurity and to meet with displaced persons when his convoy reportedly came under attack by suspected thugs.
