Veteran Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi Oke has sparked reactions on social media after making a candid comment about her potential involvement in political campaigns and endorsements.
The actress made the remarks during an appearance on the digital talk show Africa A-List, where she addressed the possibility of publicly supporting politicians in the future.
Speaking during the programme, Ronke Oshodi said any decision to appear alongside a political figure would be motivated by financial considerations rather than personal political conviction.
“My people, if you ever see me standing behind a politician, just know Ronke wants to eat. She is looking for something to put food on her table. Try to understand and don’t drag me,” she said.
The actress’s comments have generated discussions online, particularly about the relationship between entertainers and politicians in Nigeria.
Celebrities and other public figures are often approached to participate in political campaigns, endorsements and rallies, with such engagements sometimes attracting scrutiny over their political affiliations and motivations.
Ronke Oshodi’s remarks have consequently reignited conversations about the financial pressures facing members of Nigeria’s creative industry and the factors that influence celebrities’ decisions to associate with political figures.
