The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, seeking the arrest and prosecution of one of its Ogun State chieftains, Abayomi Hunye, over allegations that he has been parading himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The petition, dated August 24, 2026, and signed by the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, accused Hunye of using print and social media platforms to falsely present himself as the party’s flagbearer for the January 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The party described the claim as false and fraudulent, alleging that Hunye’s actions amounted to impersonation and could undermine peace and stability in the state.
According to the APC, Hunye had already been suspended from the party since April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. The suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the party’s national headquarters.
The party said the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities, dealings considered harmful to its image, and actions allegedly intended to create disaffection among its members.
Reaffirming its position on the 2027 governorship race, the APC identified Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its candidate, with Kudirat Abiodun Balogun as his running mate.
The party maintained that they remain the only recognised APC standard-bearers for the Ogun State governorship election.
In its petition, the APC urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate Hunye and prosecute him for alleged impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and violation of the Electoral Act, 2026.
It also asked the police to restrain him from further presenting himself as an APC governorship candidate, warning that continued claims could contribute to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
The APC national secretariat attached documents to the petition, including a certified copy of Hunye’s suspension letter from Tube Ward, the ratification letter from the Ogun State Working Committee and a letter communicating the suspension to the APC 2026 Screening Committee for Governorship Aspirants.
The party said it would cooperate fully with the police and provide any additional witness statements or information required during the investigation.
