Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has said he is prepared to face arrest for speaking what he described as the truth about the state of Nigeria and the country’s leadership.
Speaking on Saturday at the third memorial conference held in honour of the late General Hassan Usman Katsina in Kaduna, Al-Mustapha painted a grim picture of the nation’s condition, insisting that both Northern Nigeria and the country as a whole were facing deepening crises.
He accused political leaders in the North of abandoning the vision and values of the region’s founding fathers, lamenting what he described as a collapse in leadership and governance.
“From every child on the street to the elites, we know that the state of Nigeria is in a sorry state. The state of the North is totally hopeless. Speaking the truth about the situation is meant for patriots,” he said.
Al-Mustapha also criticised the low attendance of northern governors at the conference, arguing that the event’s theme, “From Sacrifice to Strategy,” should have attracted the region’s political leaders.
“They don’t have the thinking, they don’t have the sacrifice, and they don’t also have strategy for the country,” he stated.
Addressing a representative of President Bola Tinubu who attended the event, Al-Mustapha further faulted the country’s leadership, saying many public office holders lacked a proper understanding of what leadership entails.
“The system is rotten; those who are in leadership positions don’t even understand what leadership is all about,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Al-Mustapha declared that he was willing to face whatever consequences might arise from speaking out, including the possibility of being arrested.
