The immediate past Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied People’s Movement (APM), describing the claims as false and misleading.
Adelabu made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The denial follows widespread rumours alleging that Adelabu’s personal assistant, Mr. Ajiboye Akande, recently held a meeting with members of the APM to facilitate the former minister’s defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The speculation emerged shortly after Adelabu contested in the APC governorship primary election in Oyo State.
Reacting to the reports, Adelabu stated that neither he nor his aide had engaged in any discussions with the APM, insisting that the claims were entirely unfounded.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stressing that he remains a loyal member of the ruling party and holds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s National Leader, in high esteem as his political mentor.
According to the statement, Adelabu remains committed to the APC, respects the party’s leadership, and will continue to abide by its decisions in line with democratic principles.
He also urged members of the public to disregard the rumours, describing them as baseless, mischievous, and a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary confusion.
The former minister maintained that there is no truth to reports linking either himself or his personal assistant to any planned defection from the APC to the APM.
