The President-General of the Ekid People’s Union (EPU), Mkpisong Samuel Udonsak, has renewed his appeal to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, to facilitate the release of Princess God’sOwn Udoito, who has remained in custody since January 2026 over alleged defamation charges.
Udonsak’s appeal comes days after the Court of Appeal in Calabar upheld the Uyo High Court’s decision denying Udoito bail. The appellate court cited the gravity of the alleged offences, concerns over flight risk, and the potential impact on public order, while directing that the trial be accelerated.
Despite the court’s ruling, the EPU leader urged Governor Eno to exercise compassion, noting that Udoito had personally apologized to the governor over the matter.
According to Udonsak, several respected individuals and groups, both within and outside the Ekid community, have also appealed for her release.
“We renew our call on His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to let go of the past and facilitate the release of the lady on compassionate grounds, so that she can bury her father and take care of her children,” Udonsak said.
Udoito has been in detention for several months following allegations that she defamed the Akwa Ibom State governor. Her case continues to draw public attention, with growing calls from community leaders for mercy while legal proceedings continue.
