The Arewa Youth Integrity Forum has strongly criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his call for the suspension of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Atiku, through his media aides, had urged the Federal Government to suspend Gbajabiamila and launch an independent investigation into allegations linking him to a N400 billion bribery scandal.

Reacting to the demand, AYIF described Atiku’s position as “hypocritical and politically motivated,” arguing that the former Vice President lacks the moral authority to accuse others of corruption.

In a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu, the forum said:

“Gbajabiamila is a saint compared to the mountain of corruption cases that define Atiku Abubakar’s public life. While we support a thorough investigation into any allegation, Atiku lacks the moral standing to lecture anyone on integrity.”

The group accused Atiku of using the controversy to gain political advantage ahead of the 2027 general election, describing his intervention as “political mischief” intended to divert attention from his own record.

AYIF further referenced several past corruption allegations against Atiku, including claims related to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), alleged offshore financial transactions, and international investigations that have featured in public debates over the years.

“How does a man with such baggage have the audacity to call for the suspension of a serving official? This is the height of hypocrisy,” the statement added.

The forum, however, maintained that the allegations against Gbajabiamila should still be subjected to proper scrutiny and due process, stressing that no public official should be above investigation.

It concluded by urging political leaders to focus on credible governance rather than what it described as “selective outrage and endless cycles of scandal.”
