Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has relaxed the curfew imposed on Mubi Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore normal activities and boost economic operations in the area.
Under the revised arrangement, which takes effect immediately, vehicular movement, including tricycles and electric bicycles, will be restricted from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily. However, residents travelling on foot will be allowed to remain outside until 10:00 p.m.
The decision followed a review of the security situation in Mubi, one of Adamawa State’s major commercial hubs.
Fintiri commended residents for complying with the earlier curfew, noting that their cooperation contributed to the restoration of peace and stability in the area.
The governor said the importance of Mubi to trade, agriculture and cross-border commerce made it necessary to create a secure environment that would allow businesses to operate without fear.
“Government is committed to protecting lives and property while also ensuring that economic activities are not unduly disrupted. I urge all residents to continue to cooperate with security agencies and to be vigilant. Let us keep the peace in Mubi for the overall interest of our people and the prosperity of our businesses,” Fintiri said.
He, however, warned criminals and other troublemakers against actions capable of undermining the peace recently restored in the town.
“Anyone found engaging in criminal activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Government will not fold its arms and allow a few individuals to jeopardise the peace we have worked hard to restore,” he added.
Fintiri said his administration would continue to work with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women’s groups to strengthen security and sustain peace in Mubi.
